¡VIVE TU VIDA! – Get Up! Get Moving!™
At the Hispanic Federation’s ¡Vive tu Vida! Get Up! Get Moving!™ event, participants were dancing towards health! Held Saturday, March 31, 2007, at the Broad Street Ballroom, the goal was to take a physical activity traditionally associated with Latino culture – dancing – and highlight it as a component of maintaining a healthy lifestyle for persons of all ages and all sizes. Booths and workshops provided participants with information on symptoms, treatment, and prevention strategies concerning health issues affecting the Latino community, including asthma, diabetes, heart disease, eye health, and depression. Professional dance instructors gave dance lessons in different styles such as Salsa, Merengue, and other Latin musical rhythms. Afterwards, a "dance-off" was sponsored where dancers in different categories were awarded a prize. A healthy lunch was also served to all participants where Univision children’s show personalities Los Solecitos entertained the crowd with music and dance.
