National Alliance for Hispanic Health Named one of the 50 Best Nonprofits to Work for in 2010 by the Nonprofit Times

April 01, 2010

April 1, 2010 – "We are honored to be recognized among the best nonprofit employers in the U.S.," said Dr. Jane L. Delgado, President and CEO of the National Alliance for Hispanic Health (the Alliance) and author of The Latina Guide to Health (Newmarket Press, 2010).

The NonProfit Times today announced its list of the "50 Best NonProfit Organizations to Work for in 2010," including the National Alliance for Hispanic Health. The recognition program is dedicated to finding and recognizing the best employers in the nonprofit industry. The Alliance was listed at #16 among the list of Medium-Sized NonProfits.

"At the Alliance we are a mission-driven organization that is focused on service to communities. Our retention rate and length of service for staff reflect a supportive and flexible environment where employees at all levels can grow and excel. The staff at the Alliance in many ways are like the team in Mission Impossible," said Dr. Delgado. "Each person has a recognized diverse set of skills that are called upon depending on the work and the challenge that we are working to meet. This makes our work exciting and meaningful. Moreover we have a non-competitive work environment where opportunities are sculpted to bring out each person’s strengths all while serving communities."

"We also take care of our staff. Last year we were told that our insurance rates were going to go up nearly 28% and that we should look for other options,” Delgado added. “After looking at less costly coverage our decision was to retain our current policy as it provided the best coverage for our staff. Whatever we do has to be consistent with our values."

Delgado, who has led the Alliance staff for 25 years, says the organization has been able to withstand the challenges other non-profits face through transformational changes that understand that staff members are key to meeting mission objectives. And she knows the Alliance can serve as a model for successful organizations committed to public service, while using donor funds responsibly.

The NonProfit times recognized 12 Large NonProfits, 29 Medium-Sized NonProfits and 9 Small-Sized NonProfits among the top 50.
