For the first time in its history, Medicare is offering prescription drug coverage as well as
other important new preventive care benefits to all people with Medicare. Since January 1,
2006, millions of Medicare recipients have been able to pay for the medicines they need
through the new Medicare prescription drug plans. In addition, millions of beneficiaries
with lower incomes and resources have received Extra Help to pay for the cost of their
Medicare prescription drug plan. There are, however, 3.25 million Medicare beneficiaries
who could be eligible for Extra Help and who have not yet applied for this important
benefit. You could be one of them.

“If
you have Medicare and have trouble paying for your medicines,
call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227). You may be eligible
for extra help from Medicare starting January 1, 2006 that
will pay for between 85% and 100% of your medicine costs.
However, you must apply this year to receive the benefit when
it starts next year. You can also find more Medicare information
on the web at medicare.gov in
