Concilio Latino de Salud Holds First Annual ¡Vive tu vida! Get Up! Get Moving!™ Celebration
Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon to Attend Saturday, March 28th Day of Physical Activity and Healthy Lifestyles and Issue Proclamation

Olympic Gold Medalist Henry Cejudo and Mother Will Be Honored During FREE Event of Dance, Sports, Live Music, and Free Health Screenings

Phoenix, AZ – This Saturday, March 28th, 2009, Concilio Latino de Salud welcomes Phoenix residents to ¡Vive tu vida! Get Up! Get Moving!™ This annual FREE event promotes family physical activity, better health, and wellness for Hispanic families and people of all ages and all sizes. The event will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Cesar Chavez High School, located at 3921 W. Baseline Rd (between Baseline and 39th Avenue) in Laveen.

Participants will enjoy an Arizona Diamondbacks wiffle ball field, tennis clinics from the US Tennis Association, dance lessons, sports clinics, dancing to live music by local groups Grupo Caribe and After Midnite, and a lucky raffle winner will ride away with a new bicycle.

A special feature will be Para un corazón saludable heart health clinics, including workshops on atherosclerosis, and FREE screenings for cholesterol and high blood pressure. There will also be FREE health screenings for diabetes and dental screenings for kids will also be on site.

According to Dr. Elizabeth Ortiz de Valdez, Director of the Concilio Latino de Salud, "¡Vive tu vida! Get Up! Get Moving!™ reminds us that people of all ages and sizes can make movement a part of their daily lives — and have fun doing it! Dance, learn a new activity, or walk with family or friends. There are hundreds of great ways to get up and get moving for your health."

The event is FREE and open to the public as well as to journalists and coverage is invited.

Concilio is a 501(c)(3), nonprofit, community-based organization that provides culturally competent, linguistically appropriate prevention education about a wide range of health topics of great concern to the Hispanic community including: HIV/AIDS and other STIs (sexually transmitted infections), cardiovascular disease, diabetes and obesity, inhalant/substance abuse among young adults, preventative vaccinations for babies and children, tobacco use elimination and others.
